Transportation Services
Thank you to the Barry Community Foundation for the generous $15,000 grant to the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids Transportation Services. This grant will pay to maintain and operate two vans to transport Barry County residents to medical appointments.
For more than 40 years, the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids has been offering the largest free transportation service in Kent and Barry Counties. American Red Cross drivers take senior citizens, low-income and disabled individuals to medical, mental health and social service appointments, and emergency food pantry trips.
This critical service is delivered almost entirely by volunteers. Each day, volunteer drivers, directed to appointments by volunteer dispatchers, transport more than 65 individuals. In a year, they log almost 400,000 miles for as many as 2,000 clients.
Additional volunteers are always needed. If you can help, or if you know someone in need of transportation services, please give us a call.
